It is always interesting to see new and creative social media communities and networks arise, and I when I saw this one, I thought that it was unique.  It is called CampusBuddy, and the purpose of this site is to connect students and universities through this site.  One of the goals of this site is to give universities the management tools to communicate information directly with their students via the web through this online community.  There are various features to this site – first, you have to sign up and state which university you are attending, and it gives you a profile of that university.

However, the information that is presented on this site is pretty detailed – it shows statistics about the current students’ average GPA, what classes are being taught and the average for those grades, and it even provides ratings for the professors in specific departments and colleges on campus.  So in many ways, this could be the new outlet for students to rate professors and their classes through this online medium.  For students, this allows them to see what classes are being taught and they are able to interact with other students.  For professors, this can be used as a tool to manage their reputation – they will be able to see what students are writing about them based on taking their classes, and it provides them insight into what issues and topics are being raised about them.

Anyway, I thought that this was an interesting new social media community for universities – social media is indeed changing how we get information, and how we perceive others in terms of their reputation.  Hope you all are having a great day. 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen
