Since I moved to Louisville about a month ago from Knoxville to start my new position at the University of Louisville, one of the things I wanted to make sure I did was get to know not only the area, but also the social media community.

I was very excited to hear that Louisville has a very strong social media community!  A few of my colleagues told me about the upcoming Emerging Media Summit hosted by the Louisville Digital Association and IABC – I was very excited about attending this event and learning more about social media from some of the leading professionals in the field.

We heard great presentations at the Emerging Media Summit from professionals from various industries from PR to Marketing to Mobile to Market Research.  We got a chance to see what case studies were used in framing and developing new technologies and strategies in reaching new audiences in a new and innovative manner, which was very interesting.

I also got a chance to learn more about social media communities from Radian6 and the future of technologies implemented not only in the home but also with household goods from Verizon, and I also got a chance to learn about the need for marketers and PR professionals to embrace gamification from Jason Falls.

All of these presentations were thoroughly enjoyable and innovative – and it really got me excited not only about the various possibilities that this has for consulting and research, but also the possibilities incorporating these ideas and trends into the classroom.  There are definitely some great points made today throughout the workshop that were cutting edge and very strategic – so I am very excited about the knowledge and skills from today.

I was very busy taking notes throughout the day, and I would like to thank the Louisville Digital Association, IABC, and all of the professionals who helped organize this event – it was great!  I am looking forward to the next social media event!

Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
