What a way to start the new year by getting the news your research study has been published in Public Relations Journal. Very exciting! 🙂
This was a fun project to work on with two amazing professors – Tiffany Gallicano (University of Oregon) and Gee Ekachai (Marquette University). If you are not following these ladies on Twitter, you should! They truly are amazing and very engaged with their students and the PR community on social media.
So, what is this study all about? The purpose of this study was to determine what students and professionals thought about incorporating an infographics assignment into a PR course. We took a qualitative approach and did focus groups and interviews. Special thanks to Jason Falls and Shonali Burke for taking the time to speak with me during this interview as well – your insights and perspectives on infographics and what practitioners expect to see is greatly appreciated!
This study took place at three different universities and came up with some interesting teaching results as well as other points to consider for both professors and practitioners to note for the future.
However, there were some great things that came about with this study that I found to be equally important to note. First, this study was conducted because of the power of social media. I first met with Tiffany via social media a few years ago, and she was the one who got me involved with the social media committee for the AEJMC PRD. I had been corresponding with Gee as well on Twitter for years, and it was because of social media we were all able to connect and get involved with this study.
This study was originally presented at the 2013 AEJMC Conference in Washington D.C. and won first place in the teaching category of papers for the PRD.
I can’t thank Gee and Tiffany enough for allowing me to be part of this research project. I was able to learn so much from these two great professors and friends – truly an amazing and wonderful experience for me to be a part of.
Hope you all are having a great day!
Best Wishes,
