It is always good to be able to reach and talk to other fellow crisis communication professionals. This is one of the great things that social media is the fact you are able to connect with fellow professionals virtually. Over the last couple of years, I have had a chance to do just this through Twitter and Google Plus thanks to The Crisis Show. The Crisis Show is a weekly show aired every Wednesday at 7 pm EST and hosted by Rich Klein – and Rich has done a tremendous job in bringing in professionals from all different backgrounds and expertise in the field of crisis communications. The show has had educators, crisis and social media specialists, emergency management professionals, and even those who specialize in certain fields like sports and cruise line industries.
I had the honor and privilege to be part of an all-star panel last night to celebrate the second anniversary of the show. How exciting! It was a great event and wonderful to connect with some amazing professionals in the field. Here is the video segment of the episode from last night:

There are a lot of great insights shared last night related to not only crisis communications, but also related to the growing changes we are seeing in social media as well. During my time on the show, I talked a little bit on what I am seeing from my students in the classroom related to reputation management as well as in work I have done in the area of crisis communication and research into reputation management. It was fun to bounce off ideas with the panel about what are the strategies and key points we need to share with students related to social media to protect their personal brands and what we as professors can do in terms of practicing proactive online reputation management not only for the students, but for the professors.
