Tumblr is a great resource for collaboration, contribution, and engagement with others in the online community.  One of the latest Tumblr sites that I think has really done a great job in doing this is Mashable’s new Tumblr site.  It combines posts, pictures, and updates on what it is like at the headquarters of one of the prominent social media blogs presently.  What I like about this site is that it integrates everything into one specific platform where people can get their information and updates on what is happening with social media.

Tumblr is not only being used for blogs and other professionals, but also for conferences as well.  I went to the AEJMC conference a month ago in Denver, and the conference had their own Tumblr site where people were able to post pictures, blog posts, and updates related to the conference and share them with others.  It was really interesting and intriguing to see what everyone was experiencing at the conference.  This was one of the reasons why I decided to create a Tumblr site for our upcoming PR Day 2010 event here at the University of Tennessee.

So far, we have several posts with information about online registration, speakers and panelists, and additional information relevant to social media.  Students, faculty, and professionals are encouraged to submit posts about PR Day before, during, and after the event.  I am excited about this new platform, and I think that it is definitely going to be a site that public relations professionals not only should know about, but definitely get on board with.  Conferences and blogs are just the beginning with Tumblr – professionals can also establish their own Tumblr site and classes can even use this in their classroom assignments as well!  There are many opportunities out there for this new emerging platform.

Hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
