I had the opportunity to do a webinar for the PRSA Entertainment and Sports section and PRSA yesterday about some of the best practices we can take from the professionals and teams working in social media and sports.
I had a great time presenting and answering questions during the webinar. I felt that this was an important issue and topic to be covered in PR and have shared with many colleagues – from corporate communications, non-profit, and even crisis communications – that if they want to see innovative strategies and ideas in social and digital, they need to follow these professionals in the field.
I also tried to tie in some overall best practices not necessarily looking at particular platforms like Snapchat or Vine, but looking at they way these professionals are using them. I emphasized the need for mentorship, paying it forward with praise for team members, and active storyliving strategies integrated into content.
One of the things I also try to do in webinars is to leave people with resources to check out. One of the things I did was to showcase some of the professionals PR professionals who are members of PRSA may want to follow. While there are many, many excellent professionals who are working in the industry, these were the ones I highlighted in my webinar:
What are some other takeaways I learned from this webinar? Here are a few I wanted to share with you based on the experience I had:
- Practice, practice, and practice: You want to make sure you are confident with the material you have here for your audience.
- Provide visual content for your deck: I am guilty of having too much text sometimes in my presentations, so that is why I created my entire deck in Canva. I was able to integrate visuals, unique fonts, and brand it for myself. While the file was pretty big to send to PRSA, I felt it turned out pretty well!
- Take the conversation to social: I provided my Twitter handle for the attendees of the webinar and I told them – let’s continue the conversation! There’s only so much you can cover in an hour, but this allows you to be approached for questions, comments, and further discussions.
