come share with me on slideshare

One of the great things that I think that social media has done is provide a dynamic, engaging, and sharing atmosphere with the online community.  Whether it is passing our knowledge with sharing specific articles our friends and colleagues might be interested in looking at, or presenting links to interesting reports that present research that others might want to incorporate into the classroom as well as in their research.  I have tried to do this on my website and blog, as well as on my various social media profiles (Facebook and LinkedIn) as well as post on my Twitter account as well.  Sharing our insights, knowledge, and experience with others is what makes our field grow and evolve.

I have posted my presentations both on my website and blog, but now I have created an account on Slideshare where I have posted two presentations that I created that have been shared and used by students, researchers, professors, and professionals.  One presentation is on how to manage your online reputation.  This presentation is one that I have really enjoyed working on, and it has been fun to see how it has evolved over the years.  I gave my first presentation on this subject back in the Fall 2008 semester, and the students really appreciate this knowledge.  The students I share this presentation with are actively looking for internships and job opportunities, so it is very important for them to be aware of how they are presented online.

The second presentation is on social media and public relations for the National Center for Food Protection and Defense (NCFPD).  This was the presentation I created first for my Public Relations Cases class here at the University of Tennessee – and it has transformed to become a training presentation for professionals at the NCFPD.  What I really liked about working on this presentation was the fact that it was of course dealing with social media, but also incorporated the impact it has on public relations and crisis communications.  What is exciting is the fact that this is definitely an area in PR that is really dynamic right now, and it can be hard at times to catch up with the new technology! 🙂  But – it is a lot of fun and wouldn’t have it any other way! 🙂

In summary, I think that sharing and giving people a visual way to see how new technology is changing public relations, society, and giving us a front row seat into human behavior interacting with new technology – it will definitely help the field grow in both practice and in research.  I will keep on posting some of my presentations as they come along on Slideshare, as well as on my website and blog. 🙂

Hope you all are having a fabulous day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
