Simple acts of kindness

What does a positive attitude, respect online / offline, and acts of kindness all have in common?  Well, in my opinion – they are all great suggestions and practices in creating a very positive working atmosphere. The thing about working at a corporation, PR firm, university, or in a small firm – there are certain things that you can do to create a dynamic, energetic, and positive atmosphere.  All of these entities are their own communities – and in order for the best work to be conducted on the behave of clients and managing these mutually beneficial relationships and networks, it all starts with creating and maintaining a strong corporate culture – both in person as well as virtually.

In many ways, you may have to integrate these best practices yourself and take the leadership role for others to follow these practices.  Here are a few that I thought are absolutely key to create a strong corporate culture that is positive and happy for everyone involved:

  • Have good etiquette skills offline and online:  Having manners and respecting others is absolutely key – and needs to be consistently presented across all different platforms and sites (online) and various business functions and gatherings.  These behaviors – both digital and not – are a reflection of your overall reputation as a person as well as a professional.  They are one and the same.
  • Bring the positive attitude to work:  Life is too short to be sad or angry – putting things in perspective and appreciate the beauty and opportunity that each day brings will help in creating a positive attitude. This applies as well to online communication practices – there is a lot of negativity already online and in the news – so people do not want to hear about negative comments or any complaining on various social media sites.  This does not make the best first impression or help your own online reputation.
  • Treat others as you would like to be treated – online and offline: Treat others with respect, be consistent with your interactions and don’t let your emotions take over if you have any disagreements online.  Make sure that you take the time to reflect and then act accordingly.
  • Little acts of kindness add up – bring a smile to someone each day:  Going and making coffee, bringing in donuts for the office, or stopping by to say thanks and have a great day are always appreciated.  This can be done via social media as well – posting a hello on someone’s wall or thanking them for their help and hard work is always good to!

These are just a few things that I try to do to create a great, positive, and friendly environment wherever I am – both offline and online.  Again, life is too short to be angry and upset – appreciate what each day brings and thank those around that make life wonderful and fabulous.

Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
