As a graduate student, I feel that there are certain things that I have to have on me at all times – my wallet, my keys, and my cell phone.  Yes, I am one of those guilty young professionals that has actually gone back to her place from school to get their cell phone. 🙂  I remember my first cell phone was back when I was a senior in high school in 2001, and it was as big as my shot put that I used to throw.  Now, I have a Palm Pro and absolutely love all of the applications and features that it has.  🙂

Being connected and having my phone has become part of my daily routine as a public relations professional as well as a researcher / educator. We have to be up to the latest technology to be the most effective – and this includes having top of the line cell phones to be able to do our job effectively. 🙂

Just having a cell-phone is not going to cut it for 2010 – you have to have a phone that is basically a small computer and able to connect on multiple social media platforms.  People want a tool that allows them to search the web for information, connect with their friends on Facebook, and search for deals and specials from various businesses.  Plus, corporations and public relations professionals are seeing the writing on the wall and getting on the mobile e-commerce and mobile PR bandwagon.

A new report from Jupiter Research recently came out with their research study discussing what are the next trends that we can see in 2010 regarding wireless applications and technologies.  As public relations professionals and researchers, we need to be aware of this in our practice and profession – but we also have to incorporate this into the classroom with our students as well in some way.  There are numerous possibilities to this, and it will be exciting to see how this develops this upcoming year.

Hope you all are having a great day. 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen
