It seems that sometimes when you pick up the newspaper or look online at the headlines – there always seems to be a story focusing on what a corporation or brand did that was not good in terms of business practices and is labeled to be a PR nightmare.  But – when there is a corporation or brand that does an effective and positive strategy – it should definitely be acknowledged.  One of these corporations is Coca-Cola.  It appears that Coke has been doing a very effective PR job in implementing social media like their Facebook page into their online reputation and overall campaign.  Coke is ranked #2 overall on Facebook for the number of fans that they have -that is amazing!

What has made Coke so successful online?  Well – it all came down to a couple of strategies.  First, the corporation page on Facebook started off by two fans of the product – Mr. Dusty Sorg and Mr. Michael Jedrzejewski.  These two individuals set up the Facebook page without consulting with Coke – which is a risk, but it all worked out in the end.  Coke responded by acknowledging both Mr. Sorg and Mr. Jedrzejewski and taking them on a tour at the World of Coke Museum in Atlanta and for a few meetings with them.  As the article in AdAge states, Coke did an amazing job with its PR in handling the situation as well as managing their online reputation as a brand and corporation:

“Coke’s actions in sharing the page are indicative of not only the lessons the beverage giant has learned in the social-media space but also proof that big brands can tread gracefully in social media.”

So, to sum up this situation – it is nice to see a corporation that is thinking towards the future in its PR campaigns and strategies while also working together for the benefit of its consumers and other target audiences.  Keep up the great work Coca-cola! 🙂

Hope you all have a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
