It seems whereever you look – whether it is from the news or just talking with people that you know – the current economic status is definitely a popular topic of conversation. There just seems to be some professions and disciplines that are being hit the hardest. Doctoral students are also facing the challenge when applying for jobs at universities when tenure-track positions are being cut as part of the budget cuts. But what are public relations professionals and firms doing about this? How are public relations firms adapting to the ever-changing business environment? The Strategic Communication and Public Relations Center at USC Annenberg recently published their research results on their study on how the recession has impacted the Public Relations field.
Well – there are some PR firms that are using this opportunity to separate themselves from other firms by branching out a bit. One example of this is Buzzwords in Manchester, United Kingdom. Besides promoting their usual PR services for their clients, Buzzwords is taking the proactive approach in addressing in their mission and key messages that they are aware of the current situation for their clients, and they understand that if they are positive and practive with their clients – it will also benefit them. In other words – Buzzwords appears to be advocating a mutual beneficial business relationship that is a win-win situation for both parties.
Public relations agencies and professionals have to be adaptive and proactive more than ever. This is a time where good business practices and ethics will go a long way in establishing strong future relationships and a sound corporate reputation. It is all about working together to help each other make it through these tough economic times.
Hope you all are having a great day!
Best Wishes,
Karen
