One area I am very passionate about is of course social media pedagogy. I do think we are working, teaching, and practicing in a very exciting time for public relations.
Along with presentations and guest lectures, I have done some workshops in the past. However, I did my very first one here at the University of Louisville for the Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning.
The title of the workshop (have to thank Michelle and Marie for this!) is “How I learned to stop worrying and love social media in the classroom.” To be honest, I have never been worried about teaching social media – but I felt there were so many “myths” about how to teach social media as well as engage with your students online outside of the classroom.
This workshop presentation covered a variety of different subjects about social media pedagogy. I did share how I got started in social media [at the early age of 13 with my first website] and used it as a student-athlete marketing/PR tool as a thrower in high school and college. Now, I use my blog and website actively to talk about my research, teaching, and consulting opportunities.
Along with some of the main myths I have seen in social media, I also took the opportunity to share what I am doing in my class this semester, #Freberg15. From expectations, policies, assignments, challenges, and opportunities – I covered all of these points in great detail with the participants of this workshop.

Again, I would like to thank the UofL Delphi Center as well as Michelle and Marie for giving me the opportunity to share my experiences teaching social media with the participants today. This was a fun workshop to do and look forward to future ones on this topic.
