In my social media class here at the University of Louisville, we had the chance to have Nick Stover, the Director of Social Media and Engagement for UofL Athletics come and speak to our class.

Nick Stover [Director of Social Media for UofL Athletics] speaks to #Freberg14

It’s been great to see how UofL has been innovative and strategic with their social media practices in athletics as well as setting the standard for innovation and creativity when it comes to new technologies, such as Google Glass.

Nick was able to share a lot of good advice and tips with the class during his guest talk, which sparked many of the students to write blog posts about his talk. Randi really enjoyed hearing the background story on how Nick got his handle on social media [@ULFlyingCard] after skydiving as motivation to get the job with UofL Athletics and stand out, which is what Gabriel discussed in his blog post along with Katie’s post. Maggie appreciated the insight into what it takes to get into the field from an employer’s perspective since she is going to be on the job market soon. Samantha discussed this as well and added her enthusiasm in her post about possibly interning and working with Nick as well. Molly discussed what Nick is doing not only with social media, but also with Google Glass.

Abby shared about what Nick is responsible for and discussed his role in creating the social media hub and what he’s doing with Google Glass. Carly had a nice overview of how Nick came to this position in her post as well as Brittany sharing what events Nick was able to provide a good POV from last year in her post.

As you can probably imagine, the class really enjoyed Nick’s presentation, as displayed in this Storify I created for the class. It was great to have someone who is cutting edge with implementing technology into athletics across the board come and share their experiences, expertise, and stories with the students. Most of my students want to get into the field, and it was great to hear what they need to do in order to get into the field of social media and sports.

Thanks to Nick again for taking the time to come and speak to my social media class at UofL. We really enjoyed your presentation! Have a great day.

Best Wishes,
Karen
