Snapchat continues to grow and evolve as a social media platform. We have seen many brands use the social media platform to engage and interact with others. Gary Vaynerchuk discusses how Snapchat is growing up as a platform because social media platforms age up.
We are seeing this lifecycle across other platforms as well such as Instagram most recently. Remember when we considered Facebook for “young college students?” Social media moves fast!
What is key to note is to look at who to follow when it comes to the though leadership, innovation, and strategic thinking when it comes to reporting trends, campaigns, and innovative uses of a new platform. I have done this with Snapchat to try to keep up with the changes. Here are my five thought leaders when it comes to Snapchat:
- Nick Cicero: If you are not following Nick on Twitter or following the cases and blog posts from his company Delmondo, you should do so now. Lots of great insights about how Snapchat is being used in campaigns as well as tutorials on how to do certain functions with the platform. A great resource!
- Chris Syme: A great social media, sports, and crisis professional, Chris has also written many posts and created a great ebook on Snapchat marketing. She has been one of the early adapters for Snapchat especially among college athletics. Make sure to check out her latest post on updates for colleges using Snapchat.
- Jessica Smith: I consider Jessica to be one of the best curators and creators of strategic content for sports and social media – and she also features some great posts associated with latest trends, uses, and strategic implementations of new platforms for teams. She did a great Q&A with Adam Moussa (XGames), which featured what they were doing with the latest XGames on social media platforms like Snapchat. Along with interviews, Jessica offers some posts and tips related to Snapchat as well.
- Gary Vaynerchuk: I do appreciate the enthusiasm and commitment Gary has for Snapchat, and he does share his insights openly and discusses not only why we have to be aware of Snapchat, but how we can use it.
- Digiday: While this is an agency, it is still one of my go-to places for the latest trends and uses of Snapchat among other platforms. Lots of good cases, overview of current trends with Snapchat, and latest trends we are seeing with their new features.
I actually do have an assignment for my social media class using Snapchat and this has been a popular platform for the students to brainstorm, engage, and interact with their friends and consume media.
This is a new assignment for my social media class here at UofL – it’s more aligned with a strategic brief, but it does allow the students to brainstorm/consider new ways of approaching Snapchat from a strategic point of view. I will let you all know how it goes!
Hope you all are having a great day!
Best Wishes,
