I had the chance to present at the Beyond Convergence Conference in Las Vegas yesterday and had a chance to meet some amazing professionals and researchers in the area of social media, emerging technologies, and even 3D printing (so want one of these!)

The conference is sponsored by two universities (University of Nevada, Las Vegas and University of South Carolina) for practitioners, researchers, and fellow students to present research and ideas to the group. This is a very specialized conference, which I like since you are able to focus your discussions on a particular topic and area within journalism, PR, or strategic communications.

I was honored to be part of a great panel involving Dan Pacheco (Syracuse University), Guy Golan (Syracuse University), and Justin Brown (University of South Florida) to begin the conference. My topic was focusing on what PR and Journalism can learn from each other when it came from crisis communications.  Here is the link to my presentation on Slideshare if you are interested in seeing what I presented on.

What is great too is the fact these conferences give all of us an opportunity to meet and network with fellow researchers as well as professionals. One of these individuals was Jim Nico, who is the founder of The Social Network Show, based in Las Vegas. It is a show that is broadcasted across the world on issues pertaining to social networking, new media, and trends and cases that are happening right now. What a great resource not only for the profession, but for professors and students who are working, researching, and teaching new media! It was a pleasure meeting Jim and check out the show here.

Overall, it was a great conference and one I hope to see grow and expand in the near future. Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
