When you think of Louisville, there are probably some brands that come to mind. Yum! Corporation, Louisville Slugger, and of course Churchill Downs. However, there is another brand that needs to be on this list as well – and that is Papa John’s.
Papa John’s has their corporate office here in Louisville and has been a very big supporter of UofL, and I had the chance to meet up with Leah Schultz, who is their social media manager.
Leah and I first met virtually a few weeks ago on Twitter (of course!) after a LDA event and we started talking about social media in and out of the classroom (I shared my syllabus with Leah so she could see what I am covering in #Freberg15). We finally started talking about possible times to meet up, and then Leah invited me to lunch at the corporate office. I was very excited!
Before lunch, Leah gave me a tour of their museum showcasing the history of Papa John’s over the years (loved seeing one of John’s camaros) and we also got to briefly walk by their test kitchen (awesome!) and saw their UK/UL basketball court. Sports and Papa John’s are so interconnected and aligned with their corporate culture, which was great to see along with the support they have given to UofL here as well.
Leah also showed me that they have a full stocked Starbucks in the building – which I told her that this was my new favorite place. 🙂 She also introduced me to their garlic breadsticks, which were of course amazing along with the pizza.
Leah is truly a must-follow social media professional. I was able to sit down with her for lunch at the Papa John’s corporate offices in Louisville (which are gorgeous) to talk about social media, our background in the field, and life in Louisville.
What is great about what Leah is doing is she understands the complete view and process social media plays for a global brand such as Papa John’s. She understands the need for creative, strategy, copywriting, and of course integrated marketing communications with PR and advertising. Plus, since she started this new position back in January, she has gotten to go to the Super Bowl, created some great social media campaigns, and is continuing to set the bar high in all of these core areas of social media and digital for Papa John’s.
For my Louisville friends in digital and for my students who are in my social media class, you will definitely want to follow Leah for great insights and ideas in the area of social media. She’s the real deal! Special thanks again to Leah for taking the time to meet with me and chat about social media! Really appreciated it!
Hope you all are having a great day!
