It is back to finishing up the semester here at the University of Tennessee – we only have a few more weeks left in class before finals and the end of the 2010 semester (and year). Before the end of the semester however, I had to go and do my third conference presentation this fall semester out in California – it was indeed very cool and fun!
I just got back from attending and presenting at the NCA Conference in San Francisco, CA. It was the first time I attended and presented at the conference. This conference was HUGE! There were researchers and students from across all communication disciplines and backgrounds – this was pretty amazing! The line for the Starbucks in the hotel was pretty epic, but hey – we all need to have our coffee! It is a major food group of course! 🙂
I arrived late on Sunday night (well – more like Monday morning!) and was able to meet up with Mom and Dad at the conference hotel. It was great seeing Mom and Dad, and it was also a chance to let them see my world in PR. Both have seen me in action presenting in Psychology conferences like APS, but this was the first time they got to see me present in a PR Conference. Very fabulous! 🙂
I presented on Monday in the Applied Communications Division, where our paper was part of the Top Four in the division. It was a great experience to network and hear others and what they have done in their research across different disciplines. After the conference presentation, my parents got a chance to meet some of my friends from the University of Tennessee.
After my presentation, I got a chance to go to dinner with my parents and my friend / fellow PR professional Cathy Morley Foster. We had a wonderful Greek dinner at Kokkari (a must-go to place in SF!). We had a wonderful time and it was great to see Cathy and talk with her about PR!
Overall, presenting and attending the NCA Conference was very cool – I was able to meet up with some of my friends and colleagues from various universities while also making some new friends along the way. I enjoyed listening to the research presentations and panel sessions at the conference, and I got a chance to see some great posters as well. Overall, my experience at NCA was – well – fabulous! 🙂
Hope you all are having a wonderful day!
Best Wishes,
Karen
