From reading what others are saying on social media – it appears that this medium is integrating both public relations and the marketing professions together in a very interesting way.  Brian Solis, author of the new book “Putting the Public Back in Public Relations” (I highly recommend this book – absolutely fabulous!) has really revolutionized how public relations professionals and others view social media with his Conversation Prism.

Now, Mr. Solis has teamed up with JESS3 to create the Social Compass, which discusses how brands are portrayed on social media.  According to a blog post that Mr. Solis wrote on his blog PR 2.0, the Social Compass was created to point out “a brand in a physical and experiential direction to genuinely and effectively connect with customers, peers, and influencers, where they interact and seek guidance online.”

This is very exciting to see – what this shows is that corporations have to be aware that their specific brands also have a strong presence online, and how key it is to understand how social media is a crucial platform to interact and engage with key stakeholders. Also, it shows how the public relations and marketing professions are coming together and working together in a way that is unique to anything that we have seen in our recent history.  It is a very exciting time for public relations professionals to be working in and conducting research. 🙂

Brian Solis is a leader in social media and public relations – and we are all learning a great deal from his expertise and knowledge.  Thank you for your contributions and sharing your insights! 🙂

Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
