These past couple of weeks have definitely been busy for me in terms of conferences, traveling, and consulting. From presenting at the PRSA Digital Impact Conference in New York to Reputation Institute in New Orleans and then heading out to Washington, DC for APS – lots of travel! Not to mention attending my own graduation from Tennessee and heading out to Virginia for Kristin’s graduation for her second Master’s. It has all been very fabulous! 🙂
The last conference I have going on before heading out to Louisville for my new position at the University of Louisville was for the Colorado Ski Country USA Annual Meeting (CSCUSA). This annual meeting brings in professionals across the 20 different resorts in the state into Aspen, CO to discuss current trends, issues, and marketing and PR strategies to implement in their campaigns and daily activities.
I had the opportunity to talk with some amazing professionals across the marketing, corporate, and PR fields at this event. The presentations I went to were very inspiring, cutting edge, and current with the use of new emerging technologies. The presentation I gave was focusing on how resorts can incorporate social media into their crisis communications plan. Not only is it key to have these tools in place – but it is also necessary to understand the best practices and strategies that need to be implemented before a crisis even hits – so this was the focus of my presentation.
What was also exciting to me was to discuss with some of the individuals in charge of their PR and social media efforts for the ski resorts. From implementing QR codes to download maps to incorporating RFIDs into their purchases throughout the resort, I was very impressed with the strategic nature and implementation of emerging technology – very fabulous!
In addition to presenting at the annual meeting, we got a chance to have a lovely dinner in Aspen the first night we were there – the town is really gorgeous and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing! We also got a chance to have our reception at the Sky Hotel – a must go to place if you have the chance when you are in Aspen – what a great environment to network and socialize with some amazing professionals!
I would like to thank Jennifer, Craig, and the rest of Colorado Ski Country for their wonderful hospitality and kindness during my time in Aspen. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of this great community during this annual meeting and I felt the discussions and presentations to be interesting, innovative, and exciting about the new trends and issues in the ski and resort industry. Thank you all again for making my first time in Aspen a fabulous one!
Hope you all are having a great day!
Best Wishes,
Karen
