Here is what I am reading today:
“There is a pretty cool National Geographic road show touring shopping centres in Hungary right now, an augmented reality installation that lets the thousands of people passing by interact with the type of content they would find on the National Geographic channel, from dolphins and dinosaurs to leopards, spacemen and lots more. It works by placing a huge digital screen and high-powered camera in front of an AR marker that is stuck to the ground. As people step onto the marker, the content comes alive on the big screen in front of them. A neat little trick here was having what looked like a park ranger (or something!) who was there to help people interact with the augmented reality content and make the whole installation a little more interesting. Created by the guys at AppShaker.”
“That is, until I worked on the ethanol account at a public relations firm. For two years, my team and I had an incredible opportunity to shape a national debate: Would ethanol be a part of our nation’s solution to our dependency on foreign oil? The people who hired us wanted to build awareness for the corn-powered fuel and educate Americans on its benefits. It proved to be a challenge. Outside of the Midwest—where corn is hauled to ethanol processing plants and turned in to pure alcohol—it did not have much name recognition. Until the Indy Racing League announced that all of its drivers would use 100 percent ethanol in each and every race. “
“A series of phygital (physical meets digital) concept print ads that encourage out of home downloads of iphone applications. When scanned with a barcode reader the image directs people straight to the apps itunes download page.”
“Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have at the very least heard of the mobile game phenomenon Angry Birds. After all, it’s iPhone’s most popular application with over 250 million downloads across various platforms to date. It’s a clever little game that not only has cute characters but looks deceptively simple to play. Sure, you only need a finger to catapult the footless birds across the screen to destroy structures and the pigs hiding within; HOWEVER, there’s a science to the bird-flinging (no joke).”
“NEW YORK (Oct. 25, 2011) – The Breeders’ Cup, in conjunction with App developer RockLive, announced today that it has launched, for the second year in a row, the Breeders’ Cup Official iPhone and iPad Apps in advance of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs on November 4-5. The Official 2011 Breeders’ Cup app will, among other things, allow iPhone and iPad users to watch all 15 Breeders’ Cup World Championship races live and for free on November 4-5, as the world’s top Thoroughbreds compete for $26 million in purses.”
