I would definitely consider myself to be an early adapter at most things, but there has been one thing that I have just gotten into recently.  For years, I would get asked one question by my friends and other people that I know– “Karen, are you on Facebook?”  I would say that I wasn’t– but now I can say that yes, I am indeed on Facebook.

There has been many stories in the news about these social networking web sites– both positive and negative– and it has been an interesting process so far.  I have enjoyed my time so far on Facebook, and I can see why my friends like it so much.

Plus, as a public relations professional– it is a great tool for networking and it is important to understand the new technology as well.  In all of my Public Relations classes (both at USC and UT), we talk about using these sites to get to our various audiences in our campaigns and incorporate them into our strategies.  We have to know how our audiences get their messages and we as PR professionals have to adapt to make sure that we reach them effectively.

Of course, people have to be careful on what they put on their Facebook profile because employers and other people can see it.  You want to represent your own personal brand professionally and effectively at the same time.  So, what I have done is put up information that you would find on my web site or blog– and I list both on my Facebook profile in case people want to check them out.
What I have enjoyed the most is catching up with people that I have gone to school with (high school, college) and other friends.  It’s been a lot of fun! 🙂

Hope you all are having a great day! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
