APS is one of my favorite conferences to go to – great presentations, great people, and fabulous atmosphere.  I feel like I walk away with pages of notes for what to research on next for the future as well as elements to consider in my own line of research within perceptions of personality attributes, social media, and even food safety and crisis communications.  All of these ideas inspire me even more with my research and gets me excited about all of the possibilities for future research.

Kristin and I got interviewed at the Association for Psychological Science (APS) this past weekend at the convention for the APS Observer about our study looking at reverse engineering leadership among generals, CEOs, and Social Media Influencers.  What has been fun is to work on research within the family, and what makes it very exciting is the fact that we are coming in from various disciplines and backgrounds.  This is the key to success for scholarly work and research for the future – we have to work together and make sure that we are aware of what are some of the current trends and research that may help enhance our own research from related disciplines.  Being transdisciplinary is going to be the norm for researchers and practitioners, especially in public relations, in my opinion.

APS 2009 with Mom and our LinkedIn Shirts

Also, our family does have a tradition when it comes to our attire for the APS Conference – we are known for our shirts and making a connection with the research project that we are working on.  First was back in 2009 where we had LinkedIn “Connect with Me” shirts for our Loneliness and SNS study, and last year was our “Snakes in Suits” study with CEOs, and we of course wore Sytherin shirts (we are definitely fans of Harry Potter in our family!) and this year since we were focusing on the building blogs of leadership, we had lego army men shirts. 🙂  Kristin found these and they were a big success!

So, what is next for APS 2012?  Well, we will have to wait and see what future studies we are planning on doing – but I am sure that it will be fabulous! 🙂 Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
