One of the main sites that I go to when I want to look at up to date information and trends regarding new emerging technology is Digital Buzz Blog, and they have various posts regarding new campaigns and new ways brands are implementing emerging media.

The site had a link to the description of a new film called PressPausePlay that showcases the digitalization revolution happening across various industries like art, music, movies, and even business.  Here is the YouTube version of the film:

Humans are creative beings – we gravitate to explore new ways in thinking and applications for technologies.  The mystery of how to create these various products is unfolding and everyone is on board with how to implement their own visions for art and science.  There are so many other outlets for We are in a day of age where we are all writers, photographers, musicians, and social media enthusiasts.

There are of course many challenges to this new emerging environment.  We are having to raise the bar to be even more creative and strategic to get our work out there to filter out all of the noise and other disturbances out there that can be distractions.  We have a harder time reaching out in many ways to our key target audiences since they are becoming even more specialized in their interests and motivations.

There are certainly a lot of fear regarding this new trend – the issue of copyright and the distinction between what is really good and what is not is going to be harder to determine.  There are some areas where we still need to have those to evaluate the credibility of results and products being made – there are certain areas like scientific research where there needs to be proper education and training involved to be viewed as credible and true to the scientific method.

With stating this, there are many hopes discussed in the movie that we need to be aware of and addressing as well.  The creativity that is sparked among the masses to be shared via crowd sourcing is impressive.  More perspectives and visions of how individuals see the world or a new sound appearing in music – all of these are now available for the world to experience.  We have the tools and software to make these great projects today than ever before.

The barrier between location and time is also broken – we are able to work on projects on our computers and communicate via online.  In addition, the amount of time to create these projects is also diminishing where projects, art pieces, music, and other campaigns are being uploaded online in a matter of seconds where it would have taken much longer to do this without the Internet and new media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

So, where will the future of digitalization go from here?  This is a topic of conversation that needs to continued in both academic and professional circles – in PR for example, we need to be aware of these trends and how communication plays a part in this whole puzzle.

We have to look at both the challenges and opportunities, and discuss these findings within our academic and professional communities, as well as sharing these insights with our students who will be experiencing this in the workplace. So, if you have some time to watch the movie PressPausePlay, I would take the time to review it and this may be something to ask your students to review and comment on.

Hope you all are having a great day.

Best Wishes,

Karen
