Roger Clemens seems to have had a really tough 2008 so far. First, he was mentioned in the Mitchell report early on as one of the athletes that was accused of using steroids during his successful career as a baseball player. Now, Clemens seems to be in hot water when it was reported that he had an affair with a 15-year old. Yes, that is right– a 15 year old. What was Clemens response to this absolutely huge PR Catastrophe? (Yes, this is beyond the typical sports PR Nightmare because this is just over the top). Here was Clemens’s statement:

Even though these articles contain many false accusations and mistakes, I need to say that I have made mistakes in my personal life for which I am sorry. I have apologized to my family and apologize to my fans. Like everyone, I have flaws. I have sometimes made choices which have not been right.”

Okay, Clemens needs to understand that saying you are sorry in this case is just not going to cut it. His image and reputation was already in jeopardy, but now it is just gone in my opinion. People are going to associate his involvement in this huge issues to make their overall judgment of him instead of looking at what he accomplished in baseball.

Clemens needs to realize that his career, reputation, and overall “good guy” image are a thing of the past– he needs to face the consequences and realize that he indeed not only made bad decisions– but that these choices that he made are going to be life-changing. I believe that baseball is better off without Clemens in there– because we do not want young athletes to be influenced by someone like him or view him as a role model, which I believe he isn’t based on his actions.

These are just a few of my thoughts. Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
