It seems that the Brett Favre versus the Green Bay packer crisis continues to live on. It seems that Favre has not reported to the Packer’s training camp. Favre has been in the news for possibly making a comeback to football after saying that he was retiring last year. There is a possibility that Favre could be traded to another football tea and return to the football field.

This is a case that shows one of the hardest things that athletes have to do in their career– and that is when they have to decide when it is time to put the shoes up and end their time as an athlete. Retiring may be hard for some athletes that have not prepared themselves ahead of time, or really thought about what they want to do in the future.

I always knew when I was a track and field athlete that I wasn’t going to do it forever– and I did give myself a time table. When I finished my time at USC, I knew that it was time for me to put my throwing shoes up and say, well– that was a lot of fun! 🙂 Plus, I wanted to end my career on a high note, and I had a wonderful time at USC and felt it was time to move on. Since then, I have lost weight on Jenny Craig, went on to continue my education at the University of Tennessee for my Ph.D., and working hard in Public Relations. So basically, the point is that athletics doesn’t last forever– so enjoy your time as an athlete and realize that you are going to have to invest into your future and education.

Before this incident, I thought that Favre was an example of an athlete that had good PR, and was a role model for other athletes. His actions and behavior in this incident is erasing all of the good deeds, his positive reputation and image, and everything that he has done for the Green Bay Packers and their fans. He is a football icon, and the team and community love him– and he’s really undoing so much with this. Favre should have just retired, walked away from the sport as an athlete, and have people remember him as a great and personable athlete– but that is probably going to change due to his actions presently.

Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
