Today was the big day – we presented our APS poster titled “Loneliness Predicts Perception and Use of Social Networking Sites.  We were indeed a hit!  All of us (Ben, Rebecca, Mom, and I) had LinkedIn t-shirts and hats as part of the theme with our poster.  I have to say, we did stand out in a crowd!  What was interesting was the fact that the guys shirts only had the LinkedIn logo, but for the ladies – we had “Connect with Me” on the front – hmmmm. 🙂

For the poster session, we had a variety of materials to present to students and fellow researchers.  We made colored copies of our poster, and we also had business cards to pass out.  What I really enjoyed about the poster session was the fact that it was very interactive, and we got to discuss our research ideas and designs with others in the field.

People did find it interesting that I was in PR, but others thought that it was really great!  Psychology is definitely used in Public Relations and in Marketing.  One talk that I had a chance to go to at APS was titled “Psychology as a hub science,” which focuses on how social science researchers have to recognize that they need to be interdisciplinary in their research and studies.  I completely agree with this – and I believe that this is where social science is going. Another highlight for me at this presentation was to be able to hear John Cacioppo speak – very insightful and wonderful!

Congratulations to all that presented at APS, and have a wonderful day!
