In sports public relations, there is always something going on. Whether it is following a great game like the Super Bowl, or following PR Nightmares like the Baseball Steroid Scandal, it will always be busy for the PR professionals working in the field. It seems this week in particular there were a lot of interesting stories coming out of the sports community. Here are just a few stories that caught my eye.
Bobby Knight resigns as Coach: I have never personally been a fan of Knight– and for several reasons. I think that it is very inappropriate to use anger towards athletes and other people– let along throw things at them. But what caught my eye is the fact that Knight resigned in the middle of the basketball season all of a sudden. Was this part of a plan to make sure that his son got the coaching position at Texas Tech? Or was it another reason– I guess we will have to see how this develops in the media.
Roger Clemens speaks to Congress, wife also mentioned in receiving HGH (Human Growth Hormone): The Baseball scandal is definitely developing in the news due to the fact that Roger Clemens and other baseball athletes have appeared before Congress to address the allegations that appeared in the Mitchell report. However, an interesting point was made public this week that says that Clemens’ wife, Debbie, also received HGH. Interesting– what are the implications of this for Clemens himself, and what does this due to people’s perceptions of this PR Nightmare? Very interesting.
Shaq traded to the Suns: I don’t really follow professional basketball, but this story was interesting to read. It seems that Shaq has a new home in Phoenix after being traded to the Suns from the Miami Heat. How does this make the Miami Heat fans feel about this? What is this going to do in terms of the PR strategies for the Suns? I guess we will have to see what happens next. 🙂
So as you can see, there never is a dull moment in sports for a PR professional! 🙂 I hope you all are having a great day! 🙂
Best Wishes,
Karen 🙂
