Here are a few things I am reading today:

“The mainstream news media have offered the American public a divided view of how information technology influences society, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism. Over the past year, messages about the promise of technology making life easier and awe about new gadgets have vied in the news with worries about privacy, child predators, shrinking attention spans and danger behind the wheel.”

“Although helpful, there is so much more available to planners than just Facebook Events. This becomes quite clear as more planners really understand the value of social media and realize that they are only bound by their imaginations when it comes to using it.”

““The Social Network,” a film about Facebook and its creators, hits theaters nationwide this weekend. There is controversy between the filmmakers and Mark Zuckerberg, the 26-year-old billionaire founder of Facebook, over the film’s accuracy — but that’s not the only controversy. People are defecting from the site in record numbers, often citing privacy concerns.”

“With Tumblr growing rapidly, it’s attracted a number of media organizations both local and national that are looking to engage their audience in a new way and perhaps attract new readers. But it’s not just about promoting their own content.”

LinkedIn is looking to mitigate those just-graduated-from-college-living-at-home-ain’t-got-a-job blues with the beta launch of its Career Explorer, a new job-finding feature that will soon be rolling out to 60 U.S. universities. When you just get out of school, it can be hard to know where to turn to look for a job. LinkedIn offers up a kind of choose-your-own-adventure-esque tool for the newly diploma’d.Basically, students can surf through various career paths based on school, level of education and dream industry.”
