It is that time of year it seems.  Snow and winter are existing to move way for warm weather and Spring break – but it is also the time of year where the College of Communication and Information has its annual research symposium.  The theme for this year was “Communication and Information Research in a Digital Age” – and there were many interesting, creative, and insightful research presentations that were shared with faculty and students.

I had two presentations for the research symposium.  The first was a follow-up on the study that I presented last year looking at undergraduate public relations programs, and this year I looked specifically at graduate (Master’s) public relations programs.  The second presentation was with my friend and fellow doctoral student Monica, and we presented a case study looking at the Google Books case study, and the risk and threat that it has on academic libraries and their reputation as the ultimate source of knowledge.  This was a fun project to work on since it is interdisciplinary and good to look at the case from two different perspectives (Information Sciences and Public Relations).  Monica did a great job with our presentation – congrats! 🙂

The poster session at the Research Symposium was also really neat – several of my friends in the doctoral program had posters in the symposium and were all very fabulous! 🙂  The topics ranged from looking at the H1N1 crisis situation from the standpoint of the CDC to PSAs about skin cancer – all very fascinating and interesting.  I would like to congratulate my friends Anthony and Lei for winning best poster and Arsev for best doctoral student paper at the Research Symposium!  Well done guys! 🙂

Overall, the symposium was a hit and a great experience for fellow researchers to collaborate and discuss issues facing the field and talk about what needs to be looked at next.  It was a pleasure to present at the research symposium and I would like to thank everyone in the college that made this event happen this year.  It was a success!  🙂  I hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
