This May, I will have the pleasure of presenting at the PRSA Digital Impact Conference in New York City.  The conference has a great program with researchers and professionals in public relations sharing their insights and expertise on the profession and what are some of the current issues and trends happening right now with social media.

The breakout session presentation I will be giving will be focused on the looking at some of the core issues we are seeing in crisis communications with social media – and how corporations and PR professionals can strategically incorporate social media into their own crisis communications plan to form an crisis communications social media policy.  We have seen many case studies involving social media and crisis communications where this has been done well (CDC and H1N1) to where we have had to learn the hard way and take away key best practices (Kenneth Cole and Twitter; Domino’s and YouTube; Nestle & Facebook; Top Twitter Fails for individuals and brands).

Other topics that will be covered in my presentation will focus on understanding where people are getting their information and the influence of source and message as well as the associations being made in relations to these sources is key (personality), as well as sharing information on what PR professionals and researchers should do in order to make sure that they are prepared and anticipating what potential social media crises they might experience, and discuss how to incorporate these into a integrated crisis communications and social media policy.

I am very excited and honored to be part of this conference representing WVU (IMC Adjunct Instructor in PR) and Tennessee (PhD Candidate studying PR) and really looking forward to meeting some of the leaders and innovators in the field in both practice and research in public relations and social media!  Hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
