In order to protect your own personal brand, you have to monitor what is being posted or said about you online.  There are some cases that are indeed PR Nightmares, because people think that if something is posted, even on a social networking web site, that only their “friends” will see it.  However, once something is online– it is there to stay for everyone to see.

Here is an interesting story that involves a guy named Joshua Lipton, who was charged with a DUI after seriously hurting a woman under the influence, and how his profile on Facebook is quite different from how he presents himself in person.  According to a story that appeared on Fox News, Lipton had a picture on his profile page from Halloween, where he was wearing a jail suit.  Interesting how things play out.
It has been an adventure definitely being on Facebook.  I feel like I have been a late adapter, but I have enjoyed networking with friends from my various universities and from track.  However, by looking at this one particular situation, it is an important reminder that you have to be careful on what you post online about yourself.  My personal opinion regarding Facebook is that I only post items that can be found on my web site and keep it professional.

So– my main point is that you just have to be careful, and make sure that you are protecting yourself online.  Hope you all are having a great day! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
