Woo hoo! It is a great day for watching lots and lots of Football! Yes, there are times where I take a break from writing 45-page research papers, presentations, graphic final projects, and other Ph.D. assignments– well, occasionally! But today– I am taking a break to watch my two teams today– USC and Tennessee. Both teams have a lot at stake today– Tennessee is facing LSU for the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, and USC is facing UCLA in at the LA Coliseum. Intense!!! 🙂

Tennessee is going up against LSU after they lost to Arkansas last week, so this will be an exciting game! Hopefully the Vols will bring back a SEC Championship to Knoxville! There seems to be a lot of rivalries in the SEC– no one likes each other. I have had to educate myself again about that– and I quickly realized a couple of things. First, everyone hates Florida (oops!), and second– there are no friends in the SEC!

I have to say, that the USC / UCLA game is THE GAME! This rivalry is SO intense, and it is not just in football, but in ALL SPORTS! I remember Dad telling me stories about the track and field dual meets and how intense they were. I was lucky to experience that first hand myself in 2006 (I won the shot, of course) :). There is nothing like it, and USC has a lot on this game. If they win, they will go to the Rose Bowl! How exciting!!! And I think that the Trojans are a bit motivated after losing last year to the Bruins. Payback time!!! 🙂 Anyway, Mom and Dad are going to the game– I wish that I was there, but I will be watching from Knoxville. Fight on!

On another note, USC has been having to deal with some issues with the Coliseum committee about renewing their lease to use the facilities in their football game. What is up with this? USC not only brings in a ton of revenue for the Coliseum, but where else are they going to play? USC and the Coliseum are linked together– there is a lot of tradition and history between these two. I think that this is a PR Nightmare for the Coliseum committee because it has gotten a lot of attention from not only the athletic community, but in Los Angeles as well. USC is LA’s Professional Football team basically!

So, to conclude my post, I would like to say this… FIGHT ON and GO VOLS!! Beat UCLA & LSU!! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen
