Professor Jerry Swerling of the University of Southern California’s Strategic Public Relations Center released an important assessment on the state of the Public Relations industry in corporate America.
Dr. Swerling discovered in his analysis for this year’s review an emergence of Public Relations in organizations and in private practice that enjoy a straight line reporting relationship with CEO’s and other dominant members of the corporate culture.
This is good news not only for public relations professionals but also for the individuals and corporations trying to prevent costly P.R. disasters and ultimately enhance their image and long term profitability. As readers of my blog already know, I am speaking about Yahoo in China at the Reputation Institutes’s annual Convention in Beijing (a situation largely preventable by Yahoo).
By the way, Dr. Swerling ( swerling@usc.edu ) was my first year graduate professor during my Masters in Strategic Public Relations at Southern California. I learned a lot.
