I’m back on Jenny Craig in the States!

One thing that I quickly realized when I was in Cape Town is the fact that I would have to adjust to my Jenny Craig diet.  In many ways, I am REALLY glad that I was on Jenny Craig for 8 months before I left because I felt more confident in making the right food decisions.  But I also recognized the value and perception of food in South Africa– when you are invited to someone’s house or out to dinner– you have to eat everything!

the food toooo good to refuse!

So, what do you do if you are on Jenny Craig in another country?  You have two choices:  1)  Party on, eat everything in sight, and gain all the weight back! 🙂 or 2) watch your portions, and be careful for your other two meals.  I picked the second choice, and it paid off!

I went to Jenny Craig with Mom and Dad, and I only gained three pounds in two months.  Woo hoo! 🙂  This is of course after the many meals of ostrich, warthog, biltong, springboek, crocodile, and deserts… 🙂  Maybe I need to adjust my diet to have more ostrich… 🙂

sorry Dad, my friedns drank this here in South Africa!

There were several things that helped me out while I was in South Africa:

* Don’t Drink:  I don’t drink alcohol, so that was good!

* Avoid Fried Foods:  Instead of going for the fatter choices of food (ex. fried foods), I would prefer the options that were grilled or boiled.

* Be good for two meals, and watch the third:  I would have my Jenny Craig Complete Start Cereal for breakfast, and a sandwich for lunch, and then go out to dinner.  While at dinner, I would watch my portions.

* Weigh yourself each week:  Like in the States, I would weigh myself each week on the same scale (to keep myself aware of my weight and also keep me honest! :))  The Waterfront had their own gym and scale, so I would go there each Friday.   It was confusing at first because instead of lbs, it was in kgs.  Hmmmm 🙂

traveling makes good friends

What I learned from my experience is that if I did an internship abroad again for a long period of time, I have the confidence to know that I can eat healthy and stick to Jenny Craig! 🙂

Hope you all are having a fantastic day!

Best Wishes,

Karen

P.S.  Kristin is on Jenny Craig now & has lost 23 lbs!!!  Congrats sis– I am so proud of you! 🙂
