One of the things that I absolutely enjoyed about Beijing is the fact that there is just so much history around. Wherever you look, you see a temple or a historical monument– it is fantastic! I really like going to museums, and I went to a few in South Africa, and so I wanted to go to one in China. So, Kristin and I wanted to go and see the Capital Museum in Beijing on one of our last days in the city.
The Capital Museum is actually just a few blocks away from the Forbidden City and is really an interesting museum. They have so many floors that are filled with different displays and attractions. We started from the first floor and moved our way up.
The first display that we looked at was from the Athens 2004 Olympics. The museum had a display of pictures and costumes that w ere used in the opening ceremony in Athens. It was really amazing to see that. The one thing that Kristin and I were surprised about was the fact that the museum not only covered Chinese history, but also other countries as well (ex. American, France, England, etc.) In fact, there was a whole gallery that was dedicated to one American photographer in the early 1900s that spent a lot of time in China. Amazing. 🙂
We also got a chance to see other displays that focused on the Chinese culture– we saw displays that focused on the Chinese festivals, and we also saw other displays that featured Budda and Jade artifacts. It was all very interesting and enlightening.
If you are in Beijing, I would definitely say that the Capital Museum is a place that you should go and check out. Hope you all are having a great day! 🙂
Best Wishes,
Karen 🙂
