One of the things that is always good to do when going into a new country is to visit as many cities as possible!  We got a chance to really experience Cape Town and Stellenbosch along the Western Cape, but we are now experiencing one of the main cities in South Africa:  Johannesburg, or known as Joburg by many people out here.

We arrived in Joburg technically on Sunday, but we immediately left for Kruger on Monday, and we arrived back in the city last night.  Today, we got a walking tour of the city.  Joburg is quite different from Cape Town in many regards– appearance, atmosphere, etc.  Cape Town reminded me a lot of San Francisco and LA (west coast of the USA), and Joburg reminds me a lot of New York and Philly.

JoBerg's Main newspaper the Star

We got to see the newspaper house in downtown Joburg today and got a chance to look at the offices of The Star, one of the newspapers here in South Africa.  It’s interesting to see the working arrangements of journalists– it’s a little different from how PR people work.  Compared to Total Media there are a lot more desks and offices, and the overall atmosphere is different.  It’s hard to explain! 🙂

After having lunch, we walked over to one of the universities in Joburg called Wits.  It was amazing to walk around– it looked like a college campus in California! 🙂  But it was interesting to see the different campuses in other countries.

Tomorrow is our last full day in Joburg and South Africa. 🙁  How sad!  It has been an amazing journey, and I am really happy that I got this opportunity to come and spend some time in South Africa.

Have a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
