One of the movies that I wanted to go and see this summer was the animated movie “Wall-E.” I have always enjoyed animation movies, but I liked this one in particular because Wall-E reminded me of Number 5 from the movie “Short Circuit.” It was one of my favorite movies growing up! 🙂

Anyway, what I was really amazed about was the fact that the movie did have a very strong message about the issue of obesity and what we need to do to overcome it. I found it also very interesting that you didn’t see the overweight characters from the movie at all in the movie trailers– they just featured Wall-E. Why is this? Of course, there are many groups that are not happy with the movie because of how it portrays obese people.

I think that this was a very strategic PR move in many ways. First, the audience range is not just children, but parents as well– so they wanted to get the message on obesity to the parents as well. Second, the way that the characters are presented in the movie does get the point across in a very direct, but movie appropriate way. I remember when I saw this particular section, I thought– wow, I am SO glad that I am losing weight on Jenny Craig! 🙂

Dad wrote an excellent post on this the other day– and I completely and totally agree with him. Mom also wrote on her blog about how people’s perception of body dissatisfaction has changed. I think that Wall-E is a great movie, and I think that it really got its point across with the message on obesity.

We are dealing with a huge weight issue in our country, and it needs to be addressed. Losing weight can be addressed– it just takes time and doesn’t happen over night. Trust me–it’s hard and at times challenging– but it is all worth it! 🙂

Hope you all are having a great day! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
