hmmmm... fish , it what's for dinner

I have lived in Tennessee for almost a month now, and I am just starting to feel like I know where everything is. I am not getting lost as much as I did at first. Anyway, here are some things I have noticed that remind me that I’m really in Tennessee:

  • Tennessee residents have a lot of pride in their school and its teams: I have seen so many cars, houses, and businesses that wear their orange and white proudly! 🙂 This past Saturday, UT had its first home football game, which they won! 🙂 All you saw were people in their Tennessee gear, and all of the businesses had HUGE flags and banners! How neat is that??!! 😀 People love their football here!
  • Tennessee is very patriotic: This is huge for me–It is so wonderful to see tons of American flags around–We live in such a great country and it’s fantastic to be an American!
  • You know UT has a huge rivalry when they advertise their “TailGator Hater” events: This upcoming weekend is THE rivalry game–UT travels to play one of my alma maters, the Florida Gators. This rivalry is really intense! I feel like I can’t lose. 😀 The Florida grads in the UT Communications program are talking about having a party to watch the game…I just couldn’t be seen in my Florida gear here at all.
  • Huge, mutant grasshoppers: I had my share of insects in Florida, but I had my first experience with a Tennessee native a few days ago! The native that I am talking about is this huge type of grasshopper, and it is really noisy! Iwould be up at night and I would be like–what is that noise??!! But anyway, I was walking to the store and I heard my bag buzz. I thought that it was my phone vibrating, I reached into my bag, and I found this HUGE grasshopper!! I was like WHOA–this is amazing!
  • The people here are really nice: From my classmates to my professors to my neighbors and just the general public, everyone here is so happy and friendly! It’s a very positive environment.
  • Tennessee does BBQ: Outside of Texas and South Africa (where Weber kettles are a necessity), I have never seen so many BBQ places in my life! Too bad I am on Jenny Craig! 😀

Anyway, these are just a few things I’ve noticed since moving to Tennessee! I hope you all are having a nice day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
