Cape Town from above
(click for my first Newsletter from South Africa)

Having finished my first week at my public relations internship at Total Media in Cape Town, South Africa—it was quite an experience.  As I mentioned before, this is the first internship for me working for a public relations firm.  I believe that this is going to really prepare me for future career opportunities as well as for my Ph.D.  What I like about this internship for several reasons:

  • It’s at a well-established and high profile public relations firm

  • I will get to learn from the experts in the PR field in South Africa

  • I get to have hands-on experience with clients and public relations campaigns

  • Not only will I get to learn about the PR and media profession, but also get an inside look into South Africa culture on another level.

  • I will get to have practical experience in the field as a PR Intern

  • Getting the opportunity to learn more about global PR strategies and tactics

In the field of public relations, we say that the world is shrinking and that global or international PR is rapidly increasing each year.  I believe this is quite true, and this was one of the reasons why I wanted to do this internship.

There were other places that I could have gone to, but what I really liked about Cape Town is the fact that not many people can say that they have been there, let alone work there!!!  Besides, I believe that I will have many opportunities to visit London and Hong Kong in the future, but I can’t say the same about Cape Town.

It has been an amazing learning experience so far for me, and I am really glad that I chose to come to Cape Town.

Best Wishes,

Karen
