In this changing economy, it has definitely impacted how businesses, public relations professionals, and others are working.  From having more opportunities and connections conducted on the web, it seems to be what we will be doing in the future.

One area in which this is apparent is in education.  Among the doctoral students and professors, this is an area in which we are seeing the need to have more online classes for our students and get the opportunity to teach a class online.  At the University of Tennessee, the only online classes that are offered in our college is in Information Science.  However, we do not have any online courses in Public Relations.

On that note, I do have some exciting news – along with teaching at the University of Tennessee, I will also be teaching an online PR course this upcoming fall semester for West Virginia University in their Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) Master’s Program.  I am very impressed with WVU’s program since it really is interdisciplinary – there are classes in Marketing, Advertising, Communication, and Public Relations.  The professors and instructors are not only in West Virginia, but all around the United States.

I believe that public relations academics and professionals need to not only be experienced in teaching in the classroom, but they should also teach online as well.  This will make professors a balanced academic and a life-long learner in terms of the technology.  I am very excited about this wonderful opportunity and working with the professionals and students. 🙂  It is indeed going to be a busy but productive year for me – I am up to the work and to learn as much as I can from everyone. 🙂  I can’t wait to start my classes this fall both at Tennessee and West Virginia!

Hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Best Wishes,

Karen
