Technology is a wonderful thing– I absolutely love it! 🙂  I am always interested in new technologies in many forms– whether it is new computers or the latest phones (I’m envious of anyone that has an iPhone!) and new softwares.  I am particularly interested in how new technology can affect the way that we communicate with each other.

Right now, my family and I have enjoyed talking with each other on the social networking web site Facebook.  We are able to post on each other’s walls, use the various applications to send virtual gifts.  Dad has created an application called “Foodie for Yoodie,” an application that you can send pictures of some of the all of the fabulous dishes that Dad has made.  Yum!!!!  It is indeed foodie torture for someone that is trying to lose weight! 🙂

Anyway– back on my topic for this blog post– 🙂 we can use technology to communicate with people in various ways.  For example, one of the growing trends among companies, public relations agencies, and individuals to reach their audiences is through the use of social networking web sites like Facebook and MySpace.

There are many different social networking web sites out there for specific audiences, and I recently came across one that is tailored to women.  It is called DivineCaroline.com, and it is a social networking web site that you can talk about family, friends, career, travel, health, parenting, food (of course!!!) and many other issues that women are facing today and want to talk to others about.  It is a great opportunity to talk and communicate with these select audience by using this new technology.   DivineCaroline also offers featured articles in each of their main categories (relationships, career, parenting, home and food, body and soul, travel, etc) that people can discuss online with each other.

So as public relations professionals, we have to not only focus on the main social networking web sites like Facebook and MySpace, but we also have to look and see the other sites that people are using to talk and discuss key issues that may be related to our clients or research.  It’s a changing environment, and technology is paving the way and showing us that there are new various and exciting ways to communicate with each other.  And as for those that are practicing and studying public relations, we have to not only be aware of these new developments, but we have to understand them.  DivineCaroline is a great social networking web site, and I would recommend you all to check it out. 🙂

Hope you all are having a wonderful day! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
