It seems that there is one group that is learning about public relations at an early age. Here is an interesting article on how cubs and scouts are incorporating a new badge to earn is one for Public Relations. A picture of the badges are presented above, and the PR badge is on the far right. Andrew Thorp, the spokesperson for the Scouting Association, stated the following about the importance of having a PR badge:

“For PR, we are a very media-driven world these days and it’s about how we can teach communication to young people in a way they can understand.”

I think that this is important in many ways. For these young people, it is a chance to practice representing themselves in the public and media in a positive light. They are given an opportunity to be one of the many faces of the Scout Association and also be part of their overall brand. I think that the only thing that I do have against this article is that they do refer PR people as “spin doctors,” which I don’t think that is fair. Public Relations professionals do more than “spin” or create different angles– we serve as not only an adviser for corporations and individuals, but we create strategies, conduct research, and have to be able to adapt and become expert in multiple fields.

These are just a few of my thoughts on the subject. Hope you all are having a great day!

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
