social media

Why is everyone talking about social media?? Because it gets results and that is where the jobs are! 😉

“First BP was targeted with a satirical Twitter feed, and now oil giant Chevron has been hit by pranksters hijacking its corporate-public-relations efforts. While the prank may go unnoticed by consumers, it does raise issues for both marketers and media. The hoax that Chevron is now grappling with is far more elaborate and is timed to the launch of an ad campaign from the San Ramon, Calif.-based company and its lead agency, Dentsu-owned McGarryBowen.”

“Broadcasts of the Chilean miners’ rescue broke television and online audience records between Tuesday afternoon (ET) on October 12 — when news first broke that the rescue was set to begin the following day — and midnight ET Wednesday, October 13, a few hours after the last victim was pulled from the mine. Global news traffic hit a two-year high at 4,052,459 page viewers per minute at around 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, while TV viewership in the U.S. peaked during primetime (between 8 and 9 p.m., roughly) on Wednesday evening.”

A majority 64 percent of CEOs are not using social media to engage with the public and other stakeholders, according to a new study from PR firm Weber Shandwick.  Released yesterday, the report “Socializing Your CEO: From (Un)Social to Social” looked at the social media presence and activities of CEOs from the world’s top 50 companies.Among those CEOs profiled, 93 percent have been reaching out to people outside their companies in traditional ways. Most have been quoted in news and business publications, while 40 percent have talked to audiences directly at public events.
