Here are a few things I enjoyed reading about today:
“After writing “What Matters is the Trend, not the Moment,” one question immediately comes to mind; is Foursquare and Gowalla going to last? In its current form, no they are not. Right now, it is similar to when people on Twitter spent most of their time telling their friends what they had for breakfast. On Foursquare it’s simply *where* people are having breakfast, when they out shopping, standing in line at the post office, or waiting at the train station etc.” …
“Facebook Places changes very little to you as an individual. You can check into a place, but you have already been able to do that via Foursquare and Gowalla. If you are not already into location based services, chances are that Facebook won’t change much.It does mean that location based adoption rates will go up quite a bit. But, it doesn’t mean that all Facebook 500 million users will suddenly check-in where ever they go.”
“Most companies are barely prepared to deal with unhappy customers who use social media to air their gripes. Now they must be ready to respond when organized entities, such as Greenpeace, wage massive campaigns against their brands using social media channels.”
“Your reputation, online or offline is vital extremely important. Recently, a friend of mine owned a travel business. After hiring an employee with a light criminal background and having thousands of dollars embezzled from him, he started to pursue legal action against this individual. This person decided to get revenge by badmouthing the owner and business through Rip Off Report and other online platforms. Now, anytime you Google his name or business some very offensive things are displayed as a #1 result. Consequently, his business has suffered tremendously.”
