It seems that wherever you look, there is always a PR Nightmare to analyze and comment on.  That is one thing that I realized about Sports PR– no matter what you do, you will always have a job because there is always things to do!  From organizing events to formulating strategies for campaigns– and having to deal with PR Nightmares.  Well, here is one which is absolutely appalling to me.  Golf Network’s Kelly Tilghman made very inappropriate comments about what Tiger Woods’ competitors should do to him.

This is a huge PR Nightmare in so many different ways.  First, the language that was used was VERY inappropriate– Ms. Tilghman should have known better.  You just don’t say those things!!  Yesh, what can I say?  This story got a lot of coverage, and a lot of people are upset about this.  Second, the end result of Tilghman’s statement was that she didn’t get to cover stories for a couple of weeks.  What are we saying here?  Look at other journalists that have said inappropriate comments– they either got fired, suspended, or they never worked as a journalist again.

What message are we saying here?  In my personal opinion, I think that Ms. Tilghman and the Golf Channel really need to look at this crisis honestly, and I think that the best thing that they could have done was let Ms. Tilghman go.  What she did not only impacted the golf community, but other professionals working in the media fields.  But I have to say that Tiger Woods in this situation did really good PR work responding to this situation. 🙂

These are just a few of my thoughts regarding the situation.  Hope you all are having a great day. 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
