Book Review of Lauren Weisberger's

Lauren Weisberger  wrote the fabulously successful “the devil wears Prada” that became an even more  successful movie  staring Meryl Streep and Ann Hathaway.

Author Lauren Weisberger produced a second effort   “everyone worth knowing”  and a collection of short stories that included the intriguing title; “the truth about Nigel.” However, although I enjoyed Lauren’s little critique about the Public Relations Profession, it appeared to have fallen — unfortunately — flat with the critics.

Lauren did an excellent job in portraying the enthusiasm, unbridled optimism and drive that is so characteristic of our field; however, Public Relations is much much more than just ‘event planning’ which Lauren seems to focus on so intently. In the post-Paris Hilton age, party-until-you-drop seems boring. Had she also addressed problems in ‘reputation or crisis management’, the book would have allowed the women to distinguish themselves and not appear as so many vacuous airheads.

Some critics felt her new effort was a ‘rehash’ of the D.W.P. and if you looked at her name dropping of fashionable items, you might agree. However, I particularly like the way she surveys the fashion industry finding just the right symbol for each character. Although I could never never afford it, I learned about ‘Hermes Birkin’ ( I found the ‘Havana Nilo Crocodile bag’ version on a site that I will blog about later!)

In spite of the limited focus, I enjoyed the book immensely! You can pick up your own copy on  Amazon.com!

[…] Thanks to Lauren Weisberger who named dropped the ‘ultimate’ bag accessory the ‘Hermes Birkin Bag’ in her book entitled “Everyone Worth Knowing;” I went on the Internet to learn more. Hermes Bags have quite a history with famous personalities like Princess Grace Kelly and Jackie O. each having their ‘own.’ I discussed  Lauren’s book  in a previous post.
