I was looking online, and this article caught my attention. The NCAA will be reviewing the characteristics and statistics of athletes coming into universities— specifically, their academics. Student-athletes are first students– so this makes sense. But to me, the NCAA needs to be balanced. They need to address the sports and athletes that need to improve their academics, but also realize that the majority of athletes are good students as well as good athletes. 🙂 Hey–there are even athletes that are in graduate school!!! 😀

What the NCAA also has to consider in this process is that there may be some athletes that have good grades, but do not do as well on exams (multiple choice tests for example). Also, the article focuses on football and basketball for having lower test scores than other sports. But what about those athletes that succeed off and on the field? At USC, the valedictorian was on the cross country team. I would say that is pretty good! 🙂

For athletes– being part of an athletic team is like a job. They work out for several hours a day, go to class, and somewhere in the middle– they have to eat and sleep! 🙂 So, I guess we will have to see what happens with this and how this will impact future collegiate athletes.
