Coach Fran tell me it isn't so!
It’s always interesting to see how people try to “spin” a story around to make themselves look better to their various target audiences. This was the case for Texas A&M football coach Dennis Franchione, who has been in the news recently for charging boosters for his injury newsletter. What was the cost of this newsletter? $1,200. And that is just for ONE person!!

So, you can imagine how many people were paying this fee for this information. In one article, it says that it can be between 12-15 people that were subscribers to this newsletter. You can do the math, and that is a lot of money! It would be interesting to find out for sure how much money Coach Franchione made from this “newsletter.” An interesting development of this story is the fact that Texas A&M is going to release the names of the boosters that purchased this newsletter. Can we say– serious drama! Wow, it will be interesting to see how this is presented in the media.

That isn’t the only thing that completely and totally shocked me. He was quoted to saying that it was to pay for his web site. Hmmm, I really don’t believe that! First of all, hosting a web site does not cost that much– maybe $100 for a year. I should know– I have had a web site for the past ten years.  It doesn’t cost that much!!  So the real question is, what is Coach Franchione doing with the all of that money?

For Texas A&M, this is a serious issue that they have to deal with. First of all, what does this say about their athletic program and overall reputation? It does impact both the program as well as the university because they are in the news for something that’s not really positive. So, what will happen? Your guess is as good as mine! But this is an example of how the Internet has allowed people (fans, media, supporters, etc) find out what is going on with a team like Texas A&M. It’s going to be interesting to see how this develops.

I hope you all are having a great day! 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen
