The problems for former DA Mike Nifong of the Duke Lacrosse case seems to keep coming. First Mike Nifong was disbarred, and then he filed for bankruptcy. He claims that he is liable for at least $180 million, and that ranges from different lawsuits that are being brought against him and other debts that he has. However, Nifong has been recently dropped from the lawsuit brought about by the three players that were accused of rape back in 2006.

The Duke Lacrosse case was definitely an eye opener for the public in many ways. First, it really showed the impact of what one person said over others– and how that can dramatically change people’s lives. These three lacrosse players not only have been exposed to the public through the media, but their reputation has also been impacted in so many different ways. Second, it shows how the DA now is the one that has to answer a lot of questions on how he handled the case and his actions. In many ways, this case will definitely be analyzed by both public relations professionals and crisis management practitioners because it is an interesting PR Nightmare case to study and learn from.

But I think that Nifong needs to face the consequences– he did go after these players and made a big case about it– and now look what has happened. In my point of view, this is a PR Nightmare on many scales, but the key point is that it is better to research and make sure that you got all of the correct information before you jump to conclusions.

These are just a few of my thoughts on the subject. I guess we will have to see how this develops. I hope you all are having a great day. 🙂

Best Wishes,

Karen 🙂
