First couple of days as a PR Intern in Cape Town, South Africa!

Today was my first day as a PR Intern in South Africa!  I have been waiting for this day for many months and I was amazed on how time has come and gone.  I was really excited to begin my first day as a PR Intern for the South African Public Relations Agency, Total Media.  This is my first official internship at a PR Agency, and I want to learn as much as I can from the PR experts at Total Media.  So far, I have been doing a lot of pitching (contacting the media about our stories and angles).  One of the really neat things that I got to do was to contact Prada.  That’s right—Prada!  Very neat. 🙂

My day began by getting a ride from Nicole, who also works at Total Media.  It is a bit of a commute from what I am staying at on the Waterfront, but it is in a nice area.  I got to meet everyone at Total Media and I felt very welcome.  The team that I am going to be working with includes Anneke, Michelle, and Astrid.  I really appreciated all the time that they spent helping me out today—I really appreciated it.  Tziona, who is the director of Total Media, really made me feel right at home.  Everyone (Kaz, Gareth, Daniella, and Lynn) were all really nice and amazing!  Thank you so much for making my first day really great!!! 🙂

I got to do another interesting experience as well—ride the train.  It was interesting, but I recommend that you have a buddy with you when you go there.  In Cape Town, you have to make sure that you watch where you are going and make sure that you don’t make a wrong turn anywhere.

I can’t believe that I have been out of the US for nearly a week, and it seems like time is flying by.  I am having such a wonderful experience here in Cape Town, and I am so energized about all of the things that I am going to be learning from my internship.

Have a great day!

Best Wishes,

 Karen Freberg 🙂
